St. Stanislaus School Flag Retirement

Just a quick note regarding the retirement of the United States Flag that is currently flying over St. Stanislaus School. Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005 at 1pm, the Boy Scouts will give this flag a proper retirement ceremony by burning the flag, stripe by stripe, which is being overseen by Colonel John Rogers, Retired, who is in charge of the ceremony. They will be dedicating a new Stars and Stripes in memory of Cpl. Michael D. Anderson Jr., USMC, Killed in Action December 14th, Fallujah, Iraq. A Plaque will be placed in his honor.

A practice took place today Feb. 14, and another is scheduled for 2:30 PM on Thursday the 17th.

This event was born out of a Friday Morning Mass on January 14, 2005, which was a tribute to Cpl. Anderson Jr. in which Mike’s father spoke. This touched several people in attendance. It was the one month mark of his tragic death.

Cpl. Anderson Jr. just last week was posthumously awarded the "Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with the Gold ‘V’ for Valor" for superlative service during the "Battle For Fallujah" (Operation Phantom Fury). Cpl Anderson Jr. gave his life defending our beliefs and our freedoms as Americans. Capt O’Loughlin from the U.S. Marine Corps will be presenting the award to Mike and Angela Anderson.

St. Stanislaus School is located at the corner of Maze Blvd. and Carpenter Rd. in Modesto, California.
